The Google Pixel Slate was launched on October 9, 2018 at Google’s hardware event and became available in the U.S. and select markets later that year.
The Pixel Slate came in multiple variants:
• Intel Celeron (entry level, discontinued early)
• Intel Core m3 (mid-range)
• Intel Core i5 (performance)
• Intel Core i7 (high-end)
It also includes the Titan C security chip for extra protection.
Depending on the model, the Pixel Slate offered 4GB, 8GB, or 16GB RAM, and 32GB, 64GB, 128GB, or 256GB SSD storage.
The Pixel Slate has a 48 Wh battery, providing up to 10–12 hours of mixed usage such as web browsing, streaming, and productivity tasks.
It runs Chrome OS, with support for Android apps (via Google Play Store) and Linux apps for developers.
Official sales ended in 2021 when Google stopped producing tablets. However, it is still available through third-party sellers and importers, mostly in the U.S., UK, and Asian markets via resellers.
The Pixel Slate was never officially launched in Pakistan. Today, it is only available through resellers and import websites like Ubuy.pk or Wellshop.pk. Prices vary widely (₨180,000 – ₨360,000+) depending on model and accessories.
Yes. Google has promised Chrome OS updates until August 2027. That means users can still enjoy security patches and new OS features for a few more years.
Google discontinued tablet hardware development in 2019. There is no direct successor to the Pixel Slate. The closest new Google product is the Google Pixel Tablet (2023), which runs Android, not Chrome OS.
• Pixel Slate Keyboard Folio (detachable keyboard)
• Pixelbook Pen (stylus for drawing and notes)
These are now harder to find but sometimes available via resellers.
• Pixel Slate excels at Chrome OS, web browsing, and multi-account use.
• iPad Pro is stronger in apps and creative ecosystem.
• Microsoft Surface devices are better for Windows productivity and desktop apps.
If you want a Chrome OS tablet with premium display quality and don’t mind buying from resellers, it can still be useful. However, due to high prices, limited availability of accessories, and better alternatives, it may not be the best choice for new buyers.
